A Statement for Protest Against Xi in Paris<\/p>\n

Hello everyone, my name is Po Han Wu, I am Taiwanese and I currently study at Sciences Po. The following is my statement of action against Xi Jinping and the irrational behavior of the French government.<\/p>\n

Through this contestation, I would like to show Xi Jinping and the world the determination of the Taiwanese people for the search of independence, freedom, and democracy. I would also like to express my objection against the detention, perquisition and the confiscation of the independent national flag of Taiwan by the French police force.<\/p>\n

The following is the arguments of the declaration\uff1a<\/p>\n

Taiwan is currently a state de facto composed of its own government, population, territory, and sovereignty. According to the Freedom House index, Taiwan is the most democratic country in Asia only after Japan. Taiwan is ranked 13th in the index of competitivity of the World Economic Forum and contribute largely to the world in the domains of democracy, of liberty, healthcare and the integrated circuit industry.<\/p>\n

However, China has never given up on using force on us. On the military front, China has targeted more than 1000 missiles at Taiwan and has threatened to reunify Taiwan by force.<\/p>\n

Beijing attacks on multiple dimensions in order to throw Taiwan out of the international arena, by preventing us from participating at the World Health Organization, by getting rid of our diplomatic allies one by one, by putting pressure on the international companies so that they would classify Taiwan as a part of China on their internet sites, by putting pressure on the East Asian Olympics Committee so that they would cancel the Youth Games in East Asia organized by Taiwan.<\/p>\n

Recently, there have been more frequent attacks at Taiwan through the use of hybrid wars which have led to the suicide of a Taiwanese diplomat. They have also invested largely in media for Chinese propaganda and has tried to promote the notion of one country, two systems.<\/p>\n

This is why today in Paris, I have proudly waved the flag of the Independence of Taiwan against Xi Jinping, with the slogan, Taiwan will not accept, \u201cone country, two systems\u201d. I hope that in France, where freedom is a symbol of the Republic, I can show the international community our determination to defend our democracy. At the same time, I would also like to protest against China and Xi Jinping : stop the invasion of Taiwan immediately.<\/p>\n

However, France, which prides itself on liberty, equality, and fraternity, has become an accomplice of the authoritarian government today. It tried to block all opposition voices. Even there is no freedom of expression, just standing by the road and taking out the flag and shouting slogans for a peaceful demonstration. Is this the country that symbolizes liberty? Is this the attitude of the French government in face of protests?<\/p>\n

When I was detained in a police van, they told me that normally, people can protest freely. However today, instructions from high-level officials had already been given that no demonstrations in any form were allowed during this day.<\/p>\n

I would thus like to ask: who are these \u201chigh officials\u201d? Where do these instructions come from? After having declared being Jupiter, is Macron going towards autocracy just as Xi Jinping does? Freedom has always been one of the fundamental values of France but today she has betrayed it by oppressing one freedom, the one of expression.<\/p>\n

In addition, France, with its \u00ab Libert\u00e9, \u00c9galit\u00e9, Fraternit\u00e9 \u00bb at the centre of its values, has become an accomplice of an autocratic government.<\/p>\n

Thus, I would like to question the French government: why did you block the demonstration against Xi Jinping and the authoritarian system he embodies? Is freedom the spirit that France must embody or is it just a dogma that can be compromised to accommodate dictators? France has violated the freedom of Taiwanese who wanted to demonstrate in the streets for Taiwan independence against authoritarian China.<\/p>\n

Please ask yourself, is France still a country which symbolizes Libert\u00e9 ?<\/p>\n

\u00c0 travers ma d\u00e9claration, je souhaite d\u00e9montrer \u00e0 Xi Jinping et au monde la d\u00e9termination du peuple taiwanais \u00e0 marcher vers notre ind\u00e9pendance, la libert\u00e9 et la d\u00e9mocratie. Ci-dessous, le contenu de ma d\u00e9claration :<\/p>\n

Ta\u00efwan est actuellement un \u00c9tat de facto dot\u00e9 de son propre gouvernement, sa propre population, son propre territoire et sa propre souverainet\u00e9. Dans le rapport de la Freedom House, Ta\u00efwan est le pays le plus d\u00e9mocratique d\u2019Asie apr\u00e8s le Japon. Ta\u00efwan se classe aussi au 13\u00e8me rang de l\u2019indice de comp\u00e9titivit\u00e9 mondiale (WEF) et contribue grandement au monde dans les domaines de la d\u00e9mocratie, de la libert\u00e9, des soins m\u00e9dicaux et de l’industrie des circuits int\u00e9gr\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Mais la Chine n\u2019a jamais renonc\u00e9 au recours \u00e0 la force pour rattacher Ta\u00efwan \u00e0 son territoire. Sur le plan militaire, la Chine pointe sur Ta\u00efwan plus de 1 000 missiles et menace de prendre contr\u00f4le de l\u2019\u00eele par la force.<\/p>\n

P\u00e9kin attaque sur de multiples fronts pour bouter l\u2019\u00eele hors de l\u2019ar\u00e8ne internationale : en l\u2019emp\u00eachant de participer \u00e0 l’Assembl\u00e9e mondiale de la sant\u00e9 (OMS), en lui arrachant un par un ses alli\u00e9s diplomatiques, en faisant pression sur des entreprises internationales pour qu\u2019elles classent Ta\u00efwan comme faisant partie de la Chine sur leurs sites internet, en faisant pression sur le Comit\u00e9 olympique de l’Asie de l’Est (EAOC) pour qu’il annule les “Jeux de la jeunesse de l’Asie de l’Est” organis\u00e9s par Ta\u00efwan. R\u00e9cemment, il y a \u00e9galement eu des attaques fr\u00e9quentes \u00e0 Ta\u00efwan par le biais de guerres hybrides qui ont conduit un diplomate ta\u00efwanais \u00e0 se suicider. Ils ont \u00e9galement beaucoup investi dans les m\u00e9dias pour diffuser la propagande chinoise et tenter de promouvoir la formule \u201dun pays, deux syst\u00e8mes\u201d.<\/p>\n

C’est pourquoi, aujourd’hui, \u00e0 Paris, j’ai agit\u00e9 haut le drapeau de “l’ind\u00e9pendance de Ta\u00efwan” contre Xi Jinping, en scandant le slogan \u00ab Ta\u00efwan n’acceptera pas “un pays, deux syst\u00e8mes” \u00bb. J’esp\u00e8re qu’en France, o\u00f9 la libert\u00e9 est une symbole de la R\u00e9publique, je puisse d\u00e9montrer \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9 internationale notre droit \u00e0 pr\u00e9server et continuer \u00e0 construire un pays ind\u00e9pendant aux valeurs d\u00e9mocratiques. La France, qui porte \u00ab Libert\u00e9, \u00c9galit\u00e9, Fraternit\u00e9 \u00bb au coeur de ses valeurs est devenue aujourd\u2019hui le complice d\u2019un gouvernement autoritaire. La France a m\u00eame \u00e9t\u00e9 priv\u00e9e de la libert\u00e9 de se tenir sur la route en agitant des drapeaux et en scandant des slogans. Elle a essay\u00e9 de bloquer (toutes) les voix de l\u2019opposition, ce qui est contraire \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on dont le gouvernement fran\u00e7ais g\u00e8re habituellement les manifestations.<\/p>\n

La France, est-ce encore le pays qui symbolise la libert\u00e9?<\/p>\n

Lorsque j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9tenu dans un fourgon de police, un policier lui-m\u00eame m\u2019a dit que d’habitude, le peuple peut manifester librement. En revanche, aujourd\u2019hui, des instructions provenant de hauts niveaux du gouvernement ont \u00e9t\u00e9 donn\u00e9es, de sorte qu\u2019on ne permette aucune manifestation lors de cette journ\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Je me permets de demander : Quels sont ces \u00ab hauts niveaux \u00bb ? D\u2019o\u00f9 viennent ces instructions et qui ont donn\u00e9 ces instructions? Apr\u00e8s avoir d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00eatre Jupiter, Macron va-t-il sombrer dans l\u2019autoritarisme ? La libert\u00e9 a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019une des valeurs fondamentales de la France, mais aujourd\u2019hui elle a trahi cette valeur en opprimant une libert\u00e9 fondamentale : la libert\u00e9 d\u2019expression.<\/p>\n
